Roots of Terrorism "The contest for ages has been to rescue liberty from
the grasp of executive power." -Daniel Webster (1762-1852) Let us have a quick glance at the beginning
of recorded history and show how a relatively few extremists have hijacked the American Revolution to neutralize the
potential of the public for being in charge of its own destiny, that is continuing even during our twenty-first century Information
Age.
Sinohe (pronounced SeeNoHay) was a man who rose from the depth of degradation to become personal
physician to the Pharaoh Akhnaton. His views of the public in 14th Century B.C. Egypt was the title of the first major historical
novel (The Egyptian, listed at amazon.com) published in 1949 by Mika Waltari, widely considered the greatest Finnish writer
of 20th Century. In this book Sinohe states: The public as a whole has a tendency to think that ignorance
is bliss and, if educated, always tends to revert to its original state of ignorance! He likened educating
the public to dipping a person in water by saying that as that wet person does not stay wet long when out
of water, the public and education, too, do not stay together long! The irony is that
Sinohe himself was one proof of what a common man can achieve by education and perhaps good luck of rubbing
the Pharaoh the right way!
We can not deny the fact that almost all rulers had the common
denominator of fearing an educated and informed public that could limit their power and question their authority. Education
was valued, but it was for a few trusted elite, mostly of male gender. People were treated as mushrooms-were mostly
kept in dark and fed horse manure, as the saying goes! Later in relatively recent times this system of controlling
people was called propaganda machine-like most of today's popular media, if you will.
Pecking
order, bullying and competition for people's bodies, minds and pocketbooks was the name of the game. Stronger
kings robbed the weaker ones in the name of God and the kings' men robbed the people in the name of kings! Slavery
was common, and even many "respectable people" were for sale if the price was a match for their ambition.
Ordinary people, were called flocks. They were meant to be herded rather than to be heard from.
Rulers found it easier to exterminate their internal and external opposition rather than persuade them. In doing this, ends
always justified the means. In a relatively recent time this was given a modern name, Machiavellian
theory-a sort of plagiarism or reinventing the wheel, if you will. It was this fear of government that, deep in their heart,
people were reluctant to entrust it with more power than they needed for a specific mission. As an example the Greek city-states
did not form a federal government until they felt a strong need to confront the Persians.
Numerous theories
and counter theories evolved on the feasibility of trusting the mass in governing itself one of of which was Edward
Bernay's proposal of irrationality of mass mind and George G. Gallup's partially rational mass. In summary humankind went
through struggles for power during its long history both by religious and secular groups such as Nazism, Fascism, Communism
Fascism and the like. Those who only associate the former repressive regimes at odd with freedom have no adequate justification
for existence of secret societies such as Free Masons, Skull and Bones, Mafias, Bilderberg Society, and financial institutions
in the Free World since all of them vie for the control of people's thoughts, mind and pocketbooks only in different
ways. In fact the trend of returning to central control and government of few are gaining momentum especially when the extremists
in America succeed to completely erase the word People from the Government of the People. One should not overlook warnings
such as George Orwell and others about a grim future and bondage of humankind if the present trend of growth in public
apathy continues.
The following passage, attributed to Julius Caesar, albeit not verified, summarizes
the universal feeling of tyrannical rulers if their vises are not balanced with their virtues by a vigilant public.
"BEWARE THE LEADER WHO BANGS THE DRUMS OF WAR IN ORDER TO WHIP THE CITIZENRY INTO A PATRIOTIC FEVER, FOR PATRIOTISM
IS INDEED A DOUBLE-EDGED SWORD. IT BOTH EMBOLDENS THE BLOOD, JUST AS IT NARROWS THE MIND. AND WHEN DRUMS OF WAR HAVE REACHED
A FEVER PITCH AND THE BLOOD BOILS WITH HATE AND THE MIND HAS CLOSED, THE LEADER WILL HAVE NO NEED IN SEIZING THE RIGHTS OF
THE CITIZENRY. RATHER, THE CITIZENRY, INFUSED WITH FEAR AND BLINDED BY PATRIOTISM, WILL OFFER UP ALL THEIR RIGHTS UNTO THE
LEADER AND GLADLY SO."
Page summary- Contrary to what we are told, terrorism is nothing new in the history
of the world. It has been a staple part of struggle for power between the rulers and the ruled. Most importantly, it is not
conspiracy of the world against America or at least not nearly enough to justify America's paranoid to fight the so called
War on Terror and self-destruct in the process.
